Half Day Tours
Pacific Coast Highway / half day tour
Highlights:
- Coastal views
- Kiwifruit countryside
- A working kiwifruit orchard
- Mount Maunganui
- New Zealand ice cream
Enjoy a journey along the Pacific Coast Highway through the kiwifruit region and out to see the Bay of Plenty regions local beaches. The Bay of Plenty is the largest growing area for kiwifruit in New Zealand so it seems apt that the first stop of the day is at a kiwifruit orchard. Here you will learn about how kiwifruit grows, is harvested and exported.
We will then drive to the coast to the small settlement of Maketu, the landing place of Te Arawa canoe following the migration of early Maori from Hawaiki. A memorial on the foreshore commemorates the landing. Enjoy views of the spectacular coastline views all the way back to Tauranga where you can see Mount Maunganui, the region’s landmark.
Mount Maunganui (New Zealand)
Head back into the city to visit Mount Maunganui up close – you can choose to either walk up it, around it or take a leisurely stroll along the beach. We’ll finish up the day at one of the local ice creameries.
